Lower Halstow, 15:15 to 15:45, Dull and overcast, calm. Ebbing tide. Brief visit, few counts made.

1 Tufted Duck, 4 Cormorant, 2 Shag (perched on buoys in middle basin of Chatham Maritime), 1 Mediterranean Gull (hybrid Med Gull x B/H Gull - similar to winter adult with developing black hood but black primaries with white mirrors cf Com Gull. Perhaps same bird as seen here in previous years.), 1 Mediterranean Gull (adult winter) [Murray Orchard]

2 Egyptian Goose (pair flew E over bay ), 1 Wigeon (several 100 in bay with Shelduck and Shoveler but not counted), 15 Great Crested Grebe (on river), 870 Avocet (arriving to feed on exposed mud close to W and S walls), 23 Ringed Plover (roosting with Grey Plover and Dunlin), 60 Grey Plover (roosting SE corner of bay with several 100 Dunlin), 1200 Black-tailed Godwit (roosting in NW corner of bay), 12 Skylark, 6 Meadow Pipit (Richards Pipit briefly glimpsed landing in grass below sea wall around usual corner, but not seen again. Not looked for on top or seaward side of wall due to presence of roosting waders.), 2 Rock Pipit, 5 Stonechat, 1 Bearded Tit (several heard in Salt Fleet) [Murray Orchard]

Chetney, 14:30 to 16:45, Clear and sunny, cold towards dusk. Light NW breeze. Observations from Raspberry Hill
1200 Dark-bellied Brent Goose (large flock feeding out on marshes, flew out onto estuary at dusk), 90 Mallard (on fleets, many Shelduck, Pintail and Wigeon flying off Bedlams to fleets towards dusk - probably to feed put down.), 3 Marsh Harrier (+ ; 2 flew high E at dusk, no sign of significant roost on Chetney, just 1-2 birds remaining), 2 Buzzard, 1 Rough-legged Buzzard (spent all time around silos/Chetney Hill though not always in view, often perched low. Eventually flew to roost at 16.45, passing behind the poplars ), 1 Barn Owl (hunting from 16.30), 2 Short-eared Owl (from 15.30, at one point two together ) [Murray Orchard]
